Start With the Backyard You Actually Have

Every Pensacola property is different. Some homes have large open backyards with room for a pool, spa, decking, and outdoor gathering areas. Others require a more thoughtful design to work around property lines, existing structures, drainage, access, landscaping, or limited yard space.

That is why Payne does not begin with a standard pool package. We start by looking at your property and understanding how you want to use the space — whether that's a pool built around entertaining, a quiet backyard retreat, a family pool with plenty of shallow-water space, a custom pool and spa combination, or simply a clean, beautiful swimming pool that feels like it belongs with your home.

Those decisions help determine the appropriate pool type, layout, features, finishes, equipment, and surrounding materials.

Choose the Right Pool for Your Pensacola Home

Payne Pool Professionals builds multiple types of inground swimming pools, giving Pensacola homeowners the ability to compare construction methods rather than being pushed toward whichever pool type a builder happens to sell.

Custom Gunite Pools

Gunite provides the greatest flexibility when the pool needs to be designed specifically around the property. Homeowners can customize shape, size, depth, entry areas, benches, tanning ledges, spas, water features, lighting, and interior finishes.

Fiberglass Pools

Fiberglass pools offer a smooth finished surface and a more standardized installation process. Payne installs Latham fiberglass pools, giving homeowners access to a range of established shapes, sizes, tanning-ledge designs, and layouts.

Vinyl Liner Pools

Vinyl liner pools provide another inground pool option for Pensacola-area homeowners, offering a smooth surface, customizable liner patterns, and a range of available layouts.

A Pool Should Belong With the House

The best backyard designs do not make the swimming pool feel like a separate object sitting behind the home. The pool, decking, finishes, landscaping, architecture, and outdoor living areas should feel connected.

Payne considers how the pool will relate to your home's architecture, sight lines from inside the house, available yard space, outdoor seating areas, existing landscaping, and the features you want to include.

It can be difficult to understand how a swimming pool will fit into a backyard from a flat drawing. Payne uses 3D pool design to help homeowners visualize the proposed pool and major design elements before construction begins — including the relationship between the pool, house, decking, spa, water features, and surrounding backyard.

Pensacola Pool Permits

What Should Homeowners Know About Building a Pool in Pensacola?

Pool construction in Pensacola involves permitting, zoning, inspections, and site-specific requirements. Within Pensacola city limits, residential pool projects must first go through zoning and site review before the building permit is submitted. The City of Pensacola handles permit applications electronically through its My Government Online system. Properties outside city limits may fall under Escambia County jurisdiction instead.

Your exact permitting requirements depend on the property and jurisdiction, which is why identifying the correct permitting authority is an important early step in the project. Payne's Gulf Coast team manages the pool construction process based on the requirements applicable to your project.

Permit and code requirements can change and vary by property. Payne will confirm the requirements applicable to your project during the planning and permitting process.

Built for Northwest Florida

Pensacola Pools Have to Work in a Gulf Coast Environment

A swimming pool in Northwest Florida exists in a very different environment from one built in a dry inland climate. Pensacola homeowners deal with heat, humidity, heavy seasonal rainfall, storms, vegetation, and long periods of pool use. That makes good drainage, proper equipment, durable finish selections, appropriate decking materials, and thoughtful site planning important parts of the project — so the backyard functions well and stays enjoyable in Northwest Florida conditions, not just on completion day.

Pool Materials

Choose Materials That Complete the Backyard

Pool materials have an enormous influence on the finished design. The same pool structure can feel completely different depending on the interior finish, waterline tile, coping, decking, and architectural materials surrounding it. Payne helps homeowners coordinate those selections as part of the overall design.

Explore All Pool Materials

Pool Finishes

Choose from plaster, quartz, pebble, and other available interior surfaces that influence texture, appearance, and water color.

Pool Tile

Waterline and decorative tile can introduce color, contrast, and detail to the design.

Decking & Coping

The materials around the pool help frame the water and connect the pool to the rest of the backyard.

Exterior Finishes

Stone, tile, veneers, and other exterior materials can be incorporated into raised walls, spas, water features, and architectural elements.

Already Have a Pool in Pensacola?

Payne Pool Professionals also works with existing swimming pools that need to be updated, resurfaced, or transformed — including resurfacing, replastering, new interior finishes, waterline tile, coping, deck improvements, equipment upgrades, lighting, and broader renovations.

The Equipment Behind the Pool Matters

Pumps, filters, heaters, lighting, controls, and automation aren't the glamorous part of pool design — they're the part that helps everything work. Payne can help Pensacola homeowners evaluate equipment for new construction and eligible existing-pool upgrades.

Pool Cost

How Much Does a Pool Cost in Pensacola?

There is no single useful price for "a pool in Pensacola" because two projects can have completely different requirements. A straightforward fiberglass installation and a large custom gunite pool with a spa, premium finishes, extensive decking, and water features should not be presented as though they are the same product with different price tags.

The best way to establish a realistic budget is to develop the project around your actual backyard and priorities.

We got a pool from Payne Pool a little over a year ago. We went with a gunite salt water pool. I should have written this review then. They did a wonderful job with what we requested. They extended our patio at a fraction of the price of what other's were quoting us. My only issue is that I wasn't too impressed by their "pool school" they held for us right after the construction. I had no manuals that were left behind or anything to reference. It was A LOT of information especially for people that have never owned a pool before. However, I will say that any time I have had a question they kindly answered me and always fulfilled my requested. I recently had Jonathan come by and do a quick "pool school" session with me. He was kind and patient and shared valuable information I didn't receive the first time.

Unbelievably awesome! Less than 10 weeks from no hole in the ground to my salt water and heated pool is complete and beautiful! Awesome owners, project managers, and office manager who helped me design and show tiles and mosaic options for me to choose! I’ll be teaching Swim Life Water Survival lessons starting in April so Payne Pool Professionals kept to their schedule to get my pool complete in time for me to start teaching!
